UM Health-Sparrow offers lots of exciting careers, and there’s no better way to discover what we do than through our Job Shadowing program. We’re happy to announce that our Job Shadowing program is active, however due to continued Covid-19 restrictions, we may be limited to the departments able to accommodate a Job Shadow at this time.  Please read the information below regarding our Job Shadowing program and complete an application with your information.  Our Talent Acquisition team will review your request, and reach out with further instructions.

Who is it for?

UM Health-Sparrow’s Job Shadowing program is open to students (age 15 or older) and adults who are interested in exploring health care careers.

What is it?

This is a 2-4 hour experience where you will learn about UM Health-Sparrow and see, first hand, just what type of career that interests you. You will follow along with UM Health-Sparrow caregivers who will answer your questions and help you decide if this is the right career for you. This is also an excellent opportunity to network with people within the profession you are interested in.

Where can I shadow?

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow offers job shadow opportunities at our main hospital in Lansing as well as the community hospitals including UM Health-Sparrow Clinton, UM Health-Sparrow Ionia, UM Health-Sparrow Carson, UM Health-Sparrow Eaton Hospital, and many UM Health-Sparrow Medical Group Facilities.

How do I sign up?

First, you will need to complete and submit an online application located at the bottom of this page. If you are under 18, you will need your parent or guardian to complete the consent form located with the application links below, this will be uploaded to your ACEMAPP account (Further instructions below).

When we receive your application, a notification will be sent to your email address, followed by an invitation to join a sit called ACEMAPP.  This site will collect all required documentation and have you complete a mandatory orientation electronically on the site.

Required Documents to be uploaded to ACEMAPP:

  • Proof of Health insurance
  • Online HIPAA form
  • Parental Consent form if applicable

Following the documentation completion and orientation, we will notify the department you wish to shadow and they will reach out to schedule your experience. This process can take 2-6 weeks depending on the number of applicants and the availability of the department. Please plan accordingly if you need to meet a deadline such as a school requirement.
